This is just a small sample of what is out ther on the internet about remington. In the last year and a half i have bought 4 remington rifles 1 40x very well done one 700sps whould not eject shell from bolt face was repared under warranty by Ahlman's looked like a bever had worked on the bolt face when i got it back. Two XR100 .223 with bad chambers that you will not repair and i have been treaded like by your repair dept pople so i dont belive i will buy remington any longer unless you tretment of your custmers and your quilty changes

If you have a XR100 in .223 do a chamber casting they are chambered off from the center line of the bore. I had one that would not group and did a chamber casting an found that the lands ran all the way to the case neck on one side and about .050 up on theother side. I sent it back to Remington they said they would fix it. but after two mounths i called them they said they were wating on a barrel assembly. I bouth another one to rebarreled to 17 Fireball. Did a chamber casting on that one and found it had the same problem SN was 2347 higher. Called Remington and told them what i had found. They told me that it is a discouned rifle that no part are avable so they would not fix them so what did i whant them to do with the one they had. Not a very good way to run a bussnes.

Just to cover another base, why not find someone with a borescope and have him check out the neck / throat area? Reason I say this is I recently scoped two new model 738's (??) in 6.5 Mag ( yes, I know it's not the same calber, but...) and discovered that the throat reaming was wildly off center. I mean it looked like half- depth lands on one side extending all the way back to the neck area and correspondingly deep throat cut on the opposite side. I think the factory may be getting more careless (than usual) with their chambering.. I rebarrelled one with a good barrel and it shoots well under .5" for the customer (he says.)

I looked at my XR-100 in 223 with the borescope and it looks just like you describe. I guess I don't like that but I can't argue with the results as it shoots consistent .5 MOA @200Yds for 5 shot groups with several loads and .4 MOA @ 200Yds for 52 gr flat base Bruno (moly'd) bullets using N135. It is the most accurate and consistent shooting factory rifle I own. I think I will just forget I ever looked at the chamber with the scope and keep shooting it.

I thought of that... Problem is, if Remington stops making the 700 (even as sloppy as they have gotten), Savage might not try so hard to please us. Lets face it, they are the last two manufacturers making competitively priced bolt actions that can be (with considerable gunsmithing) made into accurate rifles. I don't want to burn my bridges. I do, however, want Remington to step up and do right by their customers. And I don't think that the problem is with people like Mr. Conrad... the problem is with the Remington management. These guys (and gals) would fire him in a heartbeat if they thought he wasn't carrying the company line. I'm talking about the same kind of "firearms illiterate" no-accounts who were running Winchester in 1964 (or perhaps their kids). At any rate, the way they manage their companies seem to be the same. We, the consumers, don't need another "Winchester fiasco". And in an age of world-wide information sharing, we don't have to take this crap quietly.

For what its worth in the late 90's I did half a dozen of those rem 700's that were police specials or whatever- remember? Came with case, scope, 308 sniper accuracy *cough*
NONE were shooting better than an inch- several 3" groups- one severe fouling, stripping jackets and 3-5" groups. Sent back to Remington and came back unchanged saying that was within acceptable specs. All dirty, non had been cleaned, with a new pitiful test target..
Full bedding, new muzzle crown, squared actions (when we took the barrels off you could SEE the point where the barrel started to seat/scratch first if that makes sense) Taught the coppers the importance of cleaning with bore guide and most came around to 1" or less...they were ecstatic. But back to Rem..."within specs" or something to that effect- all purchased by one swat unit-I think 5 total, cant recall exactly, but still thats almost 5K to one customer....you'd think, oh never mind LOL
