What caliber (preferable standard hunting cartridges) would you recomend for shooting 200 - 300yds?

Probably better asked on the factory/hybrid forum, but what do you want to shoot at 2-300 yards? If you're shooting paper and animals up to the size of deer the .260 Rem, 7mm-08, and .308 will all do well. If you're shooting varmints and paper the .223 works pretty well. It all depends what you want to shoot at 200-300 yards.

A good .223 will do pretty well at 200 -300 yards. When I lived in Seattle the club I was a member of ran factory BR matches, and aside from the few guys who shot .308's occasionally doing well .223's ruled the roost. People tried larger .22 centerfires with no success, and one guy tried a .222 with no success either. Larger calibers were too much entertainment to be cheerfully enjoyed by most shooters for 40 rounds of record and whatever sighters/foulers were fired. Some guys like recoil though I guess.

You'll have to handload to see the best accuracy, and you'll learn what works and what doesn't if you take it seriously.

.223, .22-250 and the .308 are all hard to beat. A 6BR would beat them all though.

Except that he wants a factory cartridge preferably, and out to 300 yd a .223 will outshoot a .22-250 of equal quality, and after 20 or so rounds the .308 too. Most folks don't take well to getting smacked by a .308 after 15 or 20 rounds and shoot better with something that doesn't kick. There are people who can deal with recoil better than others, that's for sure, but most folks will do better with a lighter recoiling rifle. The .223 is also less expensive to shoot.

Forgot about the Coopers and Savage target rifles.

I'd be willing to bet that finding Lapua or Norma factory 6 BR ammunition would be like finding a fresh box of .30 Rem at the average gunshop or sporting goods store.

6mmbr

This is not an add but Grafs sells Lapua 6mmbr ammo in 90 and 105 grain, plus Norma also sells loaded ammo.:cool:
