BXA tool holder question

Does anybody make a BXA size holder that will accept a 3/4" tool? I see that Aloris makes an AXA that will accept a 5/8". Just wondered because there is LOTS of used tooling in 3/4", and not very much stuff that is smaller. I have read elsewhere about milling the slot out in them but I don't have a mill, yet.

Thanks
Joe

Well,
If you had a mill you could cut the tool holders down with a carbide cutter. I haven't had any trouble finding 5/8" or smaller tool holders.

Yes,
I believe Dorian makes a BXA sized holder for either 1" or 3/4" tooling. I don't remember which at the time, but I remember seeing them in a catalog about 6 months ago.

Something to think about. Buying 3/4" tooling may be false economy. Over the life of the tool you will spend much more on inserts than if you bought smaller tools. I would suggest buying a set of 1/2" tool holders that take small inserts and don't look bac. Make sure they take 1/4" inserts instead of 3/8". That will be where you'll save money in the long run.

I have been watching on ebay for tooling. There is lots and lots of 3/4" and larger stuff on there because it is more common in the big shops. The same way with the inserts. There are literally thousands of inserts size 3 and bigger, but very few 2 and smaller. I know you can't depend on ebay, but you sure can get some good deals if you watch.

Thanks

Joe,
Be careful! I have hundreds of cheap inserts and no holders for them. Make sure you buy what you can use. I find the 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8" tools are much easier to use in our work.

I have been looking for a couple inserts for a holder I already have. Bought a box the other day for under $10, shipping included. They are nice Sandvic inserts.

I also looked up the over sized tool holder. Yes Dorian makes one, but they are about $100 each, YIKES!!

Thanks guys.
