Hi,

I am a newbie here. I saw a rifle that I want to buy advertised on this website but I am concerned that I could send a money order and not get the gun.

Any advice?

I have bought on Gunbroker and Auction Arms and they have an administrator who at least sees that the gun is shipped.

Thanks,

Bill

You could probably use escrow.com if the seller was willing to do it. Not all people are willing to go this route I know I have sold many items on ebay and only ever used it once as a seller generally I sell without it and this keeps some people from bidding but I have sold several items as expensive as many of the rifles advertised here without it.

I have bought and sold through the classifieds here with complete confidence and have never been stung. A few purchases have approached the $2K mark, and I sent a bank check or money order.
I would advise that you send payment via a courier that will provide you with a tracking number and delivery confirmation, for both you and the sellers' protection.
Some folks (including myself) have even shipped the product prior to receipt of payment.
You will find that in the BR shooting community there are many good people.

Pay with U. S. postal money order and that will help. If there is a problem the U.S. postal service will investigate. I had a problem buying on ebay but because I paid with U.S. postal money order the fraud division of U.S. postal service became involved and it was corrected as I received payment in full for two Leupold scopes that were not delivered. Worth a drive to post office for help if needed. srp

I have bought several things at the classified site, to include my first benchrest rifle. I had no problems, and used a postal money order. You can also have it shipped from ffl to ffl. The sending ffl will let the receiving ffl know they have the rifle, and then you can send the money order. When they receive it, they ship the gun. I have to re state: Bench rest is a small group of great guys, and they often ship things before receiving any money. I know, that has happened to me on more than one occasion.

One other thing if you are shipping something by USPS. Get a delivery conformation, cost about .55. I sold and shipped a case tumbler on ebay. About a month later the guy emails me asking where the tumbler was and claiming he had been scammed. It had been shipped to his office address apparently. Had a pretty good argument for a while, but when I finally located my DC confirmation and had the PO run a trace, they gave the exact time and date of delivery. When I sent him a copy of that it was the last I heard from him. Don't know if he was legit or if someone stole his package. Always pays to CYA.....Donald
