It seems that the button rifled barrels rule rimfire benchrest. In centerfire however there seems to be pretty even match with Kriger,Bartlien and others winning some matches. Why is it that cut rifled rimfire barrels aren't more popular with benchrest shooters? Tradition? Any rimfire benchrest matches being won by cut rifled barrels?

In my limited experience, there are fewer manufacturers making cut rifled barrels and those that do have a longer waiting time and are more expensive than button rifled. I have a Krieger cut rifled barrel and it does shoot well but no better than other button rifled barrels that I have. If I had to do it over again, I would not have paid the extra money and waited 3 months for it to come in.

Cut Rifeling

I wonder if it has someting to do with the physical space that the tool has to operate withinin? A cutter might require a little more space than pressing a button through a barrel. That's pure speculation but it's something to consider.
