Bullseye or 6 oclock hold

All the responces to my last thread kind of lead me to this.
When I learned to shoot bullseye pistol with iron sights. I was tought to hold (POA) at 6 oclock. This was the standard back then. Even when I shot all army pistol I used a 6 oclock hold. My coaches tried to teach me to use a bullseye hold (center of target) The new standard, but that didn't work. Old habbits are hard to break!
But when my eyes got worse (older) I went to a red dot. I tried holding 6 oclock but could not. It was easyer to hold the dot in the center of the target.
So my question to you is.....is there a standard in benchrest shooting for where you hold (POA)

You try to get as close to a perfect zero as possible. Then you hold off the center of the target as far as need be and in the direction required to let the wind push the bullet to the center of the bull. That's my way..some pick a wind condition and zero their scope so they can aim at the center and hit center when the condition is correct. I don't like this because it requires the exact wind condition for each shot. With my method, I can vary my hold slightly based on a higher wind velocity or a slightly different direction vector. This is a wind reading game. Just holding to a POA and releasing the shot will not win many matches.

Don, Joe,

Are you saying you zero on a no wind condition and hold off for any winds that you encounter? Around here that will put you holding the black as often as not. I sight in on the condition and hold off for small variations in condition. If I hold off in the black someplace, sooner or later I'm going to hit where I'm aiming.:( The again, maybe that's why you guys shoot better than me.

Thanks,

Ken

Yes, I use a no wind zero. The odds of making a mistake have to be higher when you zero for a condition.

I hold

center of the mothball.

I find it more natural when it comes to having to hold over. I use the rings like a clock for holdovers.
