Bullet to land

I have a Benchmark 2-Groove 17.5 twist barrel. Neither an Eley match or an Lapua will touch any part of the lead when bolted up. I plan on shooting Eley Black box match or Tenex. How should the chamber be [bullet to land ] or however would say it? Thanks

Depends on who chambered it and how it shoots? Most 2 grooves don't show much engraving because the lands are so wide, it sort of just compresses a couple of spots on the bullet, makes shiny riong on the front drive band. It also depends on what size reamer is used. You have to look close with a magnifying glass.
The main thing is how does it shoot? I've seen some great shooting rifles that just barely engraved bullets, and I've seen some great shooting rifles that engraved bullets. They don't have to put big grooves in bullets to shoot very well. I just fitted up one(2-groove) a couple of weeks ago and it shot very well. Good luck with it.

Kent, I looked at it with a jewelers eye and I can't see a mark. It shoots fair but needs to be a little better and more consistent.I think Myers did it which I know is rated good. Its on a Anschutz 54... Open for ideas...Thanks

Oh by the way I use to play alot of the Bluegrass too. I tell people I like all music as long as its bluegrass...LOL

GBS 52 If i chambered the barrel,My info will be on the Barrel,I do not have a clue as to who you really are,I prefer real names instead of handles,You then know a little more of where someone is coming from.I will bet that i did not put the barrel on for you, because if i did,you would already know the answer to your question. I have over 30 different reamers,& i chamber a barrel for the ammo that the customer will be using,You need to contact whoever you bought the rifle from & see what they had it chambered for,Its not going to perorm up to its best ,if you are shooting the wrong ammo,Every barrel that i put on is chambered for certain Make & lot of ammo. Hope this helps. BILL

Different chambers

I have had several barrels chambered by Bill Myers, and tried to chamber different brands of ammo to see what happens. They were all chambered for Eley, and all of them engrave into the driving band ever so slightly. I've tried other ammo brands, and you can definitely see that they engrave differently. If you don't have Bill Myer's name engraved on the barrel, then someone else did the chambering. Look over the entire circumference of the barrel to see, if possibly, the smith or installers name, is in a spot you can't see without removing the barreled action from the stock.

Shoot what Dawn shot

Ask Dan what shot best and buy all you can afford. Personally, I'm glad that rifle is somewhere other than in Dawns hands.

Shooting over flags ?????

I've known several shooters who complained about a used rifle or ammo they bought & it turns out they didn't even own a set of wind flags. Hope that's not the case. Good shooting, glynn

Yeah Fred the only problem is now she's got that Myer's Suhl that was featured recently in one of the shooting mag's. Use to be when you saw the Killough RV pulling up you knew with Dan you were in for a fight now if you see Dawn making the trip you're already thinking about second place at best.:)

I didn't really hear or read a complaint, just a question. I think Jerry knows what he's doing and Saturday he was shooting over five flags.

But I have a question too. If a gunsmith uses thirty different reamers and chambers for "a certain make and lot of ammo", what happens when you run out of that lot? New barrel with matched ammo? Sounds good if you can afford it.

Every BR rifle I've ever owned from several gunsmiths and a few factory engraved the bullet, always almost to the same place. Which brings up the question of why do we engrave the bullet? Think about it. Why wouldn't a gunsmith have the chamber set to engrave the bullet? Think about it.
