i broke a 6mm tap in a muzzle brake. so there is not exactly a blind hole..but close.
in the past i have used small carbide cutters and cut the tap into 2 pcs and then was able to remove...4 segment tap , cut off one segment(sometimes two) and the rest typically comes out easy.

so now to the question.
i have never used a broken tap extractor..the type with 4 fingers that go down between the segments...
do they work..work well ??
comments....
thanks

I have never had good luck with the finger type tap extractors. Usally a carbide drill and pick the pieces out or an EDM.

If you broke a carbon tap-break it w/ a punch to remove it in pieces.

If you broke a carbide or cobalt tap seek a EDM.

I have a lot of solid carbide endmills. I cut out scope screws size taps up to 3/8" taps with them. I do it in the mill. I'm a klutz and don't use carbide drills for taps or drill bits because I break them.
