Brass necks turned

I have a 6mm/284 that I am having trouble getting some new brass to chamber. I had a friend look at it (glad I did) and darn it if he did not immediatley ask if I had the necks turned on my brass. Well.... of course I didn't cause I'm so new at this, I never knew I needed to. He got the micro out, and sure enough they are .016, and I need them turned to .013. I really want them done right, and will more than likely never need it done again so I hate to buy all the tools, and then have them sit on the shelf for years.

Is there someone that has the tools to do it correct, and what would I expect to pay to have 100 rounds done? 500 rounds done?

This is a 'bullet' you need to bite. Surely you don't think that brass is going to last forever. Buy a neck turner and expander mandrel for the 6.5 caliber and learn how to do it. By doing this you'll be covered for your shooting life. There are many turners available but Don Nielson (AKA The Pumpkin) makes arguably the best there is.

Did you really mean 6.5 caliber? I think the man mentioned 6mm/284.

Call me dumb but.....

Where can I find him to see about purchasing one of his tuners?

I have priced a few neck trimmers and I think your right. If i buy a good quality one, I will have it for a life time.

Here you go. You'll never regret buying one.

An alternative may be to have a gunsmith run a reamer into the chamber and open the neck up to .276-.279 or whatever an unturned loaded round measures, plus clearance. It doesn't have to be a 6-284 reamer, any reamer with a smaller body and 35º or less shoulder and right size neck should work. Or you can get a neck/leade reamer from Kiff to do the job.

Need Brass Neck Turned

Try calling one of the Benchrest Central advertisers that offers prepped brass (such as Ron Hoehn). You can almost certainly get one of them to prep your brass for around $.75 to $1 per case. It is important to know the exact neck diameter of your chamber.

Many benchrest shooters buy prepped cases to save the time and trouble of doing it themselves. It is pricey, but 100 cases last a pretty long time.
