Brass for .222..???

Friend asked me if 223 brass can be made into 222 brass in a single pass or swage.?? I stated ignorance but said I would ask the experts...???

Of course you can. Just be careful of the amount of lube you put on the case. Too little & sticking might happen - too much & you will definitely will get dents on the pushed-back shoulder. Just use a full length size die or a file trim die.

I have a note around 1972 from CC "Tom" Seitz (how many of you old timers recognize that name?) saying he preferred LC gov't brass for making 222. Now I'd rather use Lapua, if I had a deuce.

Yes, it can be done, but why? Superior Lapua brass is available at reasonable cost.
 
only reason to..

The only reason to do this now is to get thicker necks, so that the brass can be turned to fit a chamber that's .250 or larger. The old 40XBR's in 222 had .250 necks. A chamber that's 244 shouldn't need the reformed 223 brass.

You need to check that neck diameter. A .250 neck should be a good fit with most commercial brass; it is ideal with IMI brass in a 223 Rem. If you get some Lapua brass, I suspect that you will have to turn it for a safe fit in a .250 chamber neck. This is my experience based on some custom 223's I've had built. I use IMI brass in them. Hope this helps you avoid a problem.
