my first post is a question about the shilen 4-groove ratchet rifling in their barrels, I am looking to build a factory modified class rifle on a savage action [we don't have any true benchrest activities] but heavy varmint- factory class shooting out to about 400 yds, is there any real reason to go/not go with one of these 1 in 13 twist barrels in .308 win.? all help appreciated.

you may want to go with a 14 twist, the new record at 600 yds was shot with a 308 with a 14. check it out on 6mmbr.com

the only twist I saw offered with the ratchet rifling was 1 - 13 my real question I guess is does the ratchet rifling offer any increase in velocity or accuracy?
