BR target feedback #2

the last thread has been interesting and i have another series for review. i'll put these in a new thread here to hopefully cut down on any confusion. i've also included my sighters for those that want to see them.

this next set was shot at the Rattlesnake in Raton last year. this was my first trip to the range and, as expected, my tune from my home range wasn't even close. i experimented with norma 200 some last year and this was one of the matches i used it. one thing i noticed, even at 100 yards, my load was extremely sensitive all weekend. the slightest change in velocity or direction would sent a bullet out an inch at 200.

same basic setup except:
broughton barrel
norma 200

target #1
66 gr flat based bullet
0.010 back of full jam
started with 26.8gr N200
very light condition, probably 1-5 mph.

target #2
same except went up on powder. (i'm a bit hesitant to post my actual as i used way more powder than i would ever try at home.)
winds increased, 5-10

target #3
same powder charge as #2
it's blowing now, 10-20
005rs.jpg

target #4
increased powder from last target
wind similar to last target
006rs.jpg

target #5
increased powder again
wind similar

so, what adjustment would y'all have made?
what would you have done to try to deal with the sensitivity to the wind?

thanks!

A .3667 200yd Agg.... Not bad, Raton can and does "kick your butt"........ It does mine...!

I shot that match last year.......... Looking for my results.... Where are they...If I remember right, I shot to a 21st place 2-Gun I'm pretty sure ?!.. Had @200 some small good groups with a few matches that well... Ouch.. (one went over 1.00 like a 1.200:rolleyes:)..
Anyway, I shoot Raton typically like you, "get better" as I progress through the matches... (Well sometimes)...

Your load and gun seem to accept the load increase with N200..... I have ZERO experience with N200 in a PPC.... You just gotta get in lottsa practice. I'm stating the obvious...
Think I see honest conditions affecting the groups... There try'n to go round and small... No really big "Weather Reports" shots.... A good tune for the most part.. A guess...

My take is N200 holds promise.... Was the tune pretty competitive @ 100...? Did you shoot the same gun in both LV and HV of this match and with same powder..?

Keep at it,
cale

I'd agree with Cale. Looks like you got it tuned ok after target #2 and then the wind caught you and made you lose a couple shots. If the wind was 10-20 mph, I'm sure you weren't the only one who had 4 and 1's!
Raton is tough. The last time I shot there, I had 16 out of 20 targets that were 4 and 1's. Luckily, my fliers didn't go that far from the other four shots, but ohh what coulda been if I'd just payed more attention to those green and orange thingies out yonder!

On another note, it's awful hard to look at targets after-the-fact and know what was going on without actually sitting behind you with a spotting scope and watching the sequence of shots and sighters unfold. But if you're getting .4"s and .5"s at 200 yards in 20 mph winds, I think you're doing just fine.

i was lucky to do as well as i did for a first try at Raton. my 100 yard tune was ok, just unbelievably sensitive.

yes, i shot the same rifle, bullet and powder all weekend. not sure what i think about the N200. it seemed to work alright but i had to shoot a lot more of it than i like. my brass was toasted sunday afternoon!!

i'm definitely happy with how the gun cooperated after the first two targets, just wished i could have started better. also, where i started with the powder sunday morning is where it looked best overall at 100 on saturday.

thanks for the input!
