Br barrel length

In general,. how short can a PPC barrel be and remain effective? I have a Hall 14 twist Bartlien with 763 pills down the pipe. I want to put it on another action.
Can I get away with removing 1/2" from the breech end?

Some guys start with about 22" and set back 1/4", 1/2", or even the full tenon length at least once. Some set back very small amounts like about one turn and do it more frequently. Usually no significant loss of velocity for such a small amount. For me I just like to stay long enough to set up through the headstock which with my lathe is about 21". I have used a sleeve once or twice to chamber a shorter barrel in a pinch.
