BR 28 powder

Anyone remember anything about this powder? I have a bit of it and can't for the life of me remember what the burn rate was like. Was it similar to V133 in the 6 PPC?
 
Nothing wrong with the 1940's. I'll take that generation over the current any day :)

BTW, BR-28 was a Hodgdon powder, right? I think my dad has an old can of it somewhere. Any chance you could post a photo of yours?

An Old-Timer gave me about two pounds of BR 28 powder. I have no load data for it but he told me it burns fairly fast, similar to 4198. Maybe some of you used it in the 22 Waldog and could pass on that load information?

Thanks for the information Dave. That part about static electricity and self-ignition made it easy for me to decide to spread the powder on the lawn.

I received some of the original BR-28 from Bruce H back in the late 70's to test. We shot it in waldogs (-.125) then and it shot very good. You are correct in thinking it is similar to 4198. It is some of the cleanest powder ever developed simply because it doesn't have any graphite mixed in for a stabilizing agent. Be real careful with it because it will can up static electricity in it and could possibly ignite. While this never happened to me it was the warning I received from Hodgenson.
 
I tried a very conservative load of 23 gns under a 68 gn bullet and was rewarded with a low powered under performing load that I will certainly increase. Better to start low with an unknown I suppose. I have a -.075 short 22 PPC that might make good use of the remainder of this powder. Sorry, do not have the original can as I decanted this small ammount into a smaller container. It may be in the archives somewhere, I will have to look.

I'm not sure if BR 28 was ever widely released. My dad got a can from a long time benchrester but can't remember it as cataloged. I'm pretty sure what he has is old 28. I'll check with him over the weekend and post of photo of the container if I can find it.
