In 6BR, probably my most accurate rifle & now interested in a companion barrel for varminting to go with that.......rifle is a M700 in a McMillan A2 stock. The question is, do I need to find the original gunsmith that did that rifle and have a new barrel configured in 22BR, or can I just have a new barrel made, find out about headspace gauges and proper procedures for removing and replacing barrels. I have no experience gunsmithing. Thanks!

Any good gunsmith can do it. May I suggest Steve Kostanich in your area (Chehalis). You will need some tools for switching your own barrels too, probably $150.00 or so. You do not need a headspace gauge.

My cobwebs have cleared now........

Thanks for the advice men, I would be "Joe Klutz" to even dream I could disassemble a BR rifle smithed by a gent who builds BR rifles for national champions & get it back together the same way. I will definetely use another varmint rifle & leave this one alone. One of the other shooters I see at range has a switch barrel & he had difficulty in achieving the same degree of accuracy before he messed with it........so, onto the ad sections for a 22BR rifle.....Thanks! r in s.

No problem to dissemble a

Rem 700. If I can do it, anyone can. Check your PM for some info.
