Bore scope Q

Hi

I have just bought a Hawkeye Bore scope because I suspect some leading problems in my rimfire barrel (chrome moly). Where does leading problem mostly occur - is it right after the chamber? And how does a typical lead build-up look like? Problem is I don't really know what to look for with my new gadget

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

It's usually right after the chamber and depends on how the bullet engages the rifling. Normally, there is not a great deal of leading in a .22 if it is properly made. Some Myers rifles that are built in order for the bullet not to engage the rifling will build a lead ring right at the point the bullet hits the lands and grooves if you don't keep them very clean. That one is pretty easy to see because it is an actual constriction.

The only other leading I've ever seen with a borescope appears to be a wash of the rifling because the lead is filling the grooves. Usually you can run a brush through the barrel (not clean it) and it will cause the lead to flake wherever it is. Other issues that may cause leading are fissures, bumps or scratches in the barrel. Severe constrictions may cause it as well.
