For you readers out there, I would like to pass on some reads that are just fantastic:

'Lone Survivor' by Marcus Luttrell (spelling??) True story of a SEAL in Afghanistan.


'The First Commandment' by Brad Thor. Read this one first and then get the follow up book 'The Last Patriot'. These are thriller / novels with a little truth mixed in. Writing style is similar to Dan Brown. The Lasp Patriot is a cliff hanger and ready for him to release the next one!!

For those of you that have read them, best leave details out as they can/are political in what is happening in the world as we speak.

I think you will enjoy them...I could not put them down.

On Paul's choice of "Lone Survivor". Be ready to shed a tear for this Conroe, Texas Seal and his team.

Lone Survivor is a compelling story. My mother, who is 82 recommended it to me.

...saw me eyes welling up more than once trying to hide my nose in the book. His love for the Lone Star State made it hurt even more for me. You will also LOL and get so mad you want to punch the wall!!

I plan to read it again some day but need some time...it was heavy.

You will love the other two books...they are sort of related to Lone Survivor & deal w/ the same 'issues'. One is fact...the other fiction but feels all too real.

You can't make this stuff up

I like anything by Stephen Ambrose. I have read most of his books. He wrote many non-fiction books about the American GI in World II.

He wrote about Lewis and Clark in such a way that would transfer the reader 200 years back in time. It was almost as if you were there.

"Nothing like it on Earth" The story of the building of the first transcontinental railroad was one of the best books ever written.

Non-fiction is so much better than fiction. You can't make this stuff up.

Just finished The Last Patriot, and read Lone Survivor (all the comments are right), and recently read The Last Oracle which unless you're a Russian isn't political. All good books. My wife liked The Last Oracle too, for what that's worth, but didn't like all the guns and shooting stuff in The Last Patriot.
 
Books....

I liked "Gold Warriors", and "The Marcos Dynasty" by Sterling & Peggy Seagrave. I also devoured "Welcome to Terrorland" (a runaway best-seller in SW Florida) and, "Barry & 'The Boys'; both by Daniel Hopsicker. The tongue-in-cheek humor in the last was good enough to bring a smile or two from me. I also found "The Secret Life of PLants" and "Secrets of The Soil" by Peter Tompkins & Christopher Bird fascinating! Another exellent book by Bird was: "The Persecution & Trial of Gaston Naessens" I found all to be extremely interesting & factual.

Lone Survivor was one of the best true stories I've read. The description of SEAL training, the mental and physical conditioning, the teamwork, and courage all come together in this book. A highly recommended read for anyone interested in the military elite and warrior caste.

If you haven't read The First Commandment, you will like it better than the The Last Patriot(at least I did). It's the first part that leads up to The Last Patriot. Be warned, It has a little more of the stuff your wife doesn't care for. I'm just ready for Thor's next book....he left us hanging again!!

I will check out the THe Last Oracle.

Fiction

I have read the books mentioned above, and really liked them. In the area of fiction, I love anything by Tom Clancy, and wonder if he'll ever have another book. I love anything by Vince Flynn. If you like Kick a$$ spy stuff, you will love him. I have also read a number of books by Ken Follett, and like all that I have read. He has a two book pair, semi fiction based in the middle ages, both around 1k pages that I highly reccommend. I don't have the books here, and I don't remember the names. Great huh, try to recommend something, and can't even remember the name. Anyway, being retired on disability, I spend a lot of time sitting and reading, and I like fiction, non fiction, etc. Thanks for all the input, Rusty

Tom Clancy ,W.B.Griffith,and Stephan Hunter,all three are great.:)
