If it is old enough that it is tapped on the left rear for a receiver sight you can screw a brass screw in there.
Hint, file the threads off the part of the screw that will be touched by the bolt lug, if they are left on and battered
much the screw is a bear to take out.

not that lucky

I have a Remington actioned bench gun, and before it was glued into a new stock, I was in the situation that you are currently in. What I did was leave the stop and spring in the receiver, and use something like a small Allen wrench to reach down the lug raceway and depress the stop so that the bolt could be removed. Frankly, this is so easy, that I never felt the need to do anything else, until the glue in, when one like the one pictured in post number three in the thread that this link http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?72040-Bolt-Release leads to was installed. It works just fine, but so did the old approach.

OP,
You'll loose your bolt release lever not the bolt stop pinned into the receiver.
As Dusty mentioned, you have the option to depress the bolt stop w/a small pocket screwdriver to remove the bolt from the receiver.

An Anschutz style bolt stop is popular on most of the Rem Custom Clones manufactured today.

Boyd,
That plunger bolt stop should be illegal to manufacture, as it is beyond FUGLY.

who ever said that

Practical is supposed to be pretty?

Some believe wrapping a piece of plastic over a stock & drilling 2 holes to insert a couple carriage bolts/nuts to acquire an adjustable cheek piece is practical also.

Bastardizing an action by enlarging or drilling & tapping a hole to insert a bolt or spring loaded bolt stop is functional...but FUGLY.

thanks to all for the comments.
boyd and dan were correct...lost the lever not the stop and
it is simple to push from above to release the stop.

thinking out loud.
drill a small hole straight down from the front of the stop in the stock.
wrap a fine wire around the front of the stop, run it
thru the hole. pull on wire to release bolt..hmmmm

I agree...that dies not sound like a reliable route. Sounds more like a hack than anything, lol.

Have a side bolt release installed. Not the ugly plunger style, the rocker type that gets installed in a milled slot and pinned.

aww but that would defeat the low dollar approach to minor issues....
today a tooth pick works fine and cost a lot less.
