bolt face question

Can a 'ppc cased' br rig with a 308 bolt be turned onto a switch bbl for a true 308 case head like 6br / 308 / etc??

Curious if you need another bolt or if the extractor adjustment will work with both ppc(220 russian) and 308 cases without issue.

Thanks,

If your saying that you have a PPC that has a .308 bolt face already, then yes, you can make it a switch barrel 6BR or .308 or any SA .473" case head cartridge.

Depends on the action. For instance customs would need a custom extractor.

It is a stolle panda action chambered in 6ppc, but we want to change the barrel to a 6 dasher, which is a 6br improved would the panda bolt except the br case?

i forgot to say that it is a 6ppc currently, but has a 308 bolt face

If it has a ppc boltface, the br or dasher case won't fit unless you open the face up. That can be done on a panda for very little and will extract fine with either case and the original extractor. If your panda is an ejector model, there may be issues with doing this.--Mike

and it does have an ejector will it still work then?

Thanks!!

Let me clarify the situation.

The initial comment from jbr's smith was that they would need to get another bolt on this panda 6ppc. I feel this is not needed. Please note this rig currently has a .308 bolt face for the ppc cartridge already. No opening of the bolt is needed. Their goal is to make a switch barrel with the current 6ppc barrel and a dasher.

Again, I do not think they need another bolt and if anything, maybe just a slight 'extractor' adjustment to work on both cases??

There is NO ejector on this panda.

Am I thinking correctly here??

Just chamber up the barrel in the dasher and screw it up tight and shoot it. No bolt work should be needed if it's already a .308 bf. The .308 and the dasher use the same bf. Take a 6BR case and try it in the bolt to see for yourself and pay attention to the extractor.

Thanks Mike...Already did that and the 6br case fits fine.

I suspected they were getting incorrect advice.

Much appreciated amigo!!

PPC/308 Bolt Face

I'm shooting a 6ppc on a Remington action which was originally chambered for a 243 Winchester. I have 3 barrels for this rifle which I frequently change when I fireform 220 Russian.

There are no problems with this. If it is a Remington, Panda, Bat, etc. the PPC will function just as good as any .473 cartridge base in any 308 bolt face bolt. A cartridge rim smaller than a ppc is not recommended.

My .02 cents.
