Bolt Checkering

Can anyone recommend someone who does multi panel bolt checkering.

I have a Model 70 action that Ralph Bone did a 3 panel checkering job on, accented by light engraving. Its a pleasure to look at.

I have 3 or 4 actions(2-XP100 why someone would design a handle that UUUGLY I'll never know) that need the bolt handles replaced and thought they would look nice with a checkered panel or two.

Is there a custom gun forum that is as good as this site?

I'd give anything to be able to do work like that!

Dusty,

I've done a little checkering (wood and steel) and some engraving......I'll tell you one thing you'll "give", your lower back! You've got to have real "zonability" to set there for the hours required....... good music helps. Having to answer the phone and meet customers at the front desk DOES NOT!

If you ask me, a Remington 700 action (or the 40x or XP actions on the same note) would look much better with a nice checkered bolt knob like the ones he makes, along with a 3-position safety shroud (although I know some have said bolt timing issues are common with most aftermarket 3-position safety shrouds).

Katokoch,
I don't see how a 3 pos safety affects timing. Properly installed by somebody that knows what they are doing is a real plus.

I believe that would be the issue... I remember seeing a thread earlier on bolt timing and someone brought that subject up.
