Bob Schmidt has fallen ill

I never quite know how to handle news like I received today, and I went back and forth on posting this information here, but I thought that anything positive may help Bob in his toughest battle. I spoke with his daughter who informed me he has an advanced form of melanoma and may not see the start of next season.
For any of you who know Bob he doesn't believe in the internet and so this post is mostly informational (he won't be reading this though rest assured that any posts will be passed on to him to bolster his spirits), but I know that he would appreciate the knowledge that the benchrest community was behind him while he faces the next few months...can't believe that it has to be in those terms "months".

He has supported our matches as well as many other matches in CT unfailingly and always had a grin and a wise remark to pass on to make the day that much better...a shot out in the nine ring elicited an "Oh Goodie Goodie" and would always bring a chuckle to competitors in the vicinity (read: 5 benches to either side).

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Mike Suhie

Dear Bob

Bob, I do not know you but I want to offer my support for you. We of the BR community want to express our affection for one of our own and you are one of us. Rest assured that we will not forget all that you have done both in our sport but also in your life. Kiss and hug your loved ones. Forgive your enemies and ride into the sunset with your boots on just like you did in life. . Tim

Mike ..thank YOU for letting us know about Bob.....I am a nobody in the "B"enchrest game but have found that no matter where I go arround the nation to shoot in an ocasional match I find the same love for shooting and brotherly love that you show for your friend Bob...please let him know that we care about him and apreciate his many years of giving bak to all of us...Roger

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I will pass on your well wishes to Bob and his family.
I have always hesitated posting on other threads where someone was announced to be ill or as having passed away because I didn't know them and thought that my post wouldn't mean much. I feel differently now.
Thanks again.
Mike

Wanted to let people know that Bob lost his battle with melanoma yesterday morning. I had a chance to visit with him about a week ago and passing on was a blessing to be sure.
He was a good man and will be missed.
