Blake co ax to center barrel ???

Would a Blake CO AX indicator work to reach up inside a barrel to center it or would it be better to get a test indicator??

How long are the rods that you slide up inside the barrel?

Hal,
I certainly wouldn't use mine on a barrel. Look up a Starrett 513-504 indicator and a lot of us use it. For most calibers after you drill it will reach up into the hole to allow you to indicate the throat.

Even with a long probe you can't reach the throat with long cartridges such as an STW or 378wby based case can you?
I am asking, not trying to tell you.

James, I am speaking of the shorter cartridges, but a long probe is available for that indicator. With that you could reach way up into the chamber.

I hope I am not perceived as hijacking this thread but I think what I am asking is pertinent to it.

I was going to buy a Mitutoyo like Gordy is using with the long probe because after pre-drilling you can get it further in and reach the throat because of the way it is designed with the round base or what ever you call the part projecting off that holds the probe. Then Jerry Sharret posted that that was a waist of money get the Starret.
I just don't want to spend that much money if I will not be able to reach the throat on the long cases when I know that I would be able to with the Mitutoyo.
I do understand that with the long probe both have resolution reduced to .0005.
If you think I can reach the throat with the Starret on the long cartridges I will look further into getting that instead of the Mitutoyo. Just looking at the pictures I can't tell how far the body of the Starret would fit into a drilled hole.
I understand that the quality of the Starret is the best but if I can't touch what I want to measure it's of little use.

I asked the same question on here a couple of months back and never got much of a response. I always thought it would be an easy way to reach up in the neck. But after buying a long stem Interapid, I decided to leave the Blake in its box. I have alot more confidence that I am centering the barrel as close as possible with the Interapid.
