Hi everybody
National associations have got the next message from the South African Benchrest Association ( SABRA ) concerning world benchrest championships in Pretoria on June 2009:
................
have some bad news regarding the N133 we are not having much luck with the shippers see attached correspondence and comments from Stuart below it seems as if S.A. is not on the main shipping line and air freight is prohibited. I have been trying to bring in 600 kg of N133 for the event with
out any success thus far. We would have to bring in a 20ft container at a cost of R2.5 million rand which we can not afford at this point in time it would take us 8-10 years to use up the stock. The cost of the powder to us in Finland was very reasonable about 30 Euro per Kg however the shipping, transport and insurance etcetera would more than doubled the cost. I would suggest you look at the possibility of loading up some shotgun shells for some "bird hunting" and in this way you will be able to bring along enough of your favorite lot this has been done in the past. The sad thing is that we were sponsored 50 Kg of N133 together with some components directly from Vithavouri for the WBC 10.
We will have adequate S335 it is a locally made powder by the group Rheinmetall Denel Munition I am not sure if S335 is available in Europe.
We do have competitors that are shooting teen aggs with the S335 powder their loads are 29.3- 29.9.
I trust that you will understand the predicament we are in I apologies for the inconvenience this may cause your team members.
Best regards
Roland.

This message is not suitable with real facts. Total costs ( powder and freight included ) of transporting 600 kg Vihtavuori N 133 powder from Finland to SA is only 36 000 euros. SABRA is so claiming over five times so much when compared in total, real costs. Nammo-Lapua has informed, that SABRA has withdrawn their order therefore, that they dont have enough money for it (...not so many sponsors as needed...). Shipping from Finland to SA is going VERY ROUTINELY !!!!!!!
SABRA is offering as you see, S 335 powder for competitors. Lapua experts, who are the best in the world, have never heard of that powder. Germanmade ( Hartmut Brömel ) ballistic ( very good ) program does not know that powder, too. Maybe it is somekind military surpluspowder.
Does anybody know anything of that powder ? We finnish benchrest shooters would be very interested in next facts:
- heat of explotion // kj/kg
- ratio of spesific heats
- burning rate factor Ba // 1/s
- pro- or degressivity factor aO
- progressive burning limit z1 //x 100 %
- factor b
- propellant solid density // g/cm3
- shot start ( initiation ) pressure / psi
---------------
I should be very grateful of your answers.
