Can anyone tell me anything about Wiseman barrels in College Station TX. How good are they?

I wouldn't buy one from him if I was guaranteed a win on every target I shot. Besides, I have never seen his name on any equip. list.

I was at a SHOT show in New Orleans with a good friend. He pointed Bill Wiseman out to me and said, "You don't want to have anything to do with him." I believed him then and have never heard anything to lead me to believe that he was wrong.

I had two many years ago and (I must admit one was a replacement for the defective first one) not wishing to badmouth any body I will just say I cannot disagree with the preceding two posts.

I too met Mr. Wiseman at the Shot show. Most of his samples were test barrels for industry. He made no effort to try to sell me barrels.

Look at the names of barrels used in the equipment lists of the top shooters. You will see a number of barrel makers, but Wiseman will not be among them.

That should tell you something.

That certainly answers my question guys, thank you. Another question, I am a hunter, but an accuracy freak. who would you recommend for my purposes who isn't outrageously expensive. I expect to pay for quality work but who is good but reasonable.

You may want to look into Douglas barrels which are every bit as accurate, just not finished lapped. Adams and Bennett (sp?) barrels also have a decent reputation...I think Midway carries them and you can read the reviews on the particular barrel you are wanting to purchase.
otherwise, you can't go wrong (99% of the time) with Shilen, Hart, Krieger, Bartlein, Broughton, lawton, etc...
You will get what you pay for IMHO.

I met Bill at the annual NRA meeting in Kansas City. Like Rustystud mentioned, all he had was pressure barrels. I'm not sure why he had a booth set up.

If you want a cheap hunting barrel Adams and Bennet fit the bill, as far as I know they only come in chrome moly but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. With the 2 that I have shot, using moly coated bullets greatly reduced copper fouling.

As already mentioned----

I would consider a Douglass bbl. Mickey Coleman sells them and is an excellent gunsmith. If i'm reading you right, you would like to have your action trued and an accurate bbl installed to get the most out of your rifle. If thats the case, you might want to contact him. He is an advertiser on this site.

The Shilen Chromo Barrels are pretty good at a decent price.
I have one in 25 caliber I got at the SWAP meet last year and it looks pretty good.

Douglas Special Twist

As mentioned before Douglas barrels are shooters. The only thing about Douglas that many don't know is that they will make twist rates other than those shown. For instance they made me a 30 cal. 20" twist for no extra charge, and it shipped at the same time as the standard twist I ordered.
