This is pics of Bill's rifle built around his own receiver. He still needs to polish it and clear the stock.

Nice job Bill, I know that you are proud of it.

It is a 2 lug or 3 lug action? What extractor is it using? Caliber?

Dennis,
Check the post below about receiver blanks. That is Bill's receiver.
Butch

Thanks Butch... two lugs and I am assuming absolutely nothing between the small extractor and the shooters left eye with one of the bolts... ? The other bolt ?

Actually, a right bolt left port is the safest sako extractor installation you can have other than a full diameter bolt body. When the bolt is closed the extractor is facing the right raceway which is closed at the rear by the bolt handle. If the extractor does blow out of the bolt it should be captured in the right raceway.

Right you are Mike... I went back and looked at the picture again and I see what you described. For some reason in my mind I had the bolt working differently... a way it couldn't when I rethink it... small brain blip ... With that extractor the left port is so much better than a right port...

Dennis, I saw a drop port action at the nationals that was a left port right bolt with a sako style extractor. When the bolt is closed, the extractor points at the port which is right in front of the face. Not a good idea. I think it would have been better to have a m16 extractor. It did have the advantage of a coned bolt which helps with feeding problems that you can have with a Remington style boltnose.

Butch,Thanks for posting the picture,I will take a few more after the stock is Dipped & coated with a marble finish. The rifle is a 6 Dasher,8 Twist Benchmark,3 Groove,Taper Lapped barrel& a Harrells Tuner. Baer makes the stock.Kiff made the bolt.I will test it & tune it at 600yds,Then finish it. BILL

Mike, I am having trouble getting my head around this... this picture (below) of the bolt for Bill's action shows the extractor above the left locking lug which when closed places the extractor against the right side of the action where there is no port...

What would be different with the action you describe above unless it was actually a dual port action?

With the drop port, the extractor is in the bottom of the open bolt. When the bolt closes, the bolt rotates right and the extractor comes up 90 degrees which is right dead center of the left port. That's why Stiler used a Remington extractor. The action I saw was not a production unit yet, but was from a major custom action maker. If they come out with it, I hope they switch to a m-16 type extractor. Right bolt right port drop port would be alright with sako extractor, but still could be a problem with the left port being somewhat open at the rear of the raceway when the bot is closed.

aahhhhhhhhh! Another miss on my part. I did not read the "drop port", I was only seeing the "left port right bolt"... I think the anticipation of my hunting trip in a couple of days is affecting me... :D

Nice job, Bill! :) Thanks for posting the pics. Butch! I think you'll like the "dip" - I have two huntin' rigs with such finishes . . and, of course, the 'LIZZARD KING" (snake skin), now in the possession of one Al Nyhus - all are great looking and durable to boot! Please let us know how it shoots! RG

Action for Rimfire

Bill, I have heard you were going to be building a rimfire action, is this the same action design or something all together different?
Thanks, Tony Meade

Tony,My Rimfire action is in the hands of the Harrell brothers,It will hopefully be in production by spring & it is completely different.I did shoot the dasher today at 200yds,Got the cases fireformed & shot a few groups,It really likes the 108 BIB,Under .250 ,but only one group.I need to work with the tuner,I think that the barrel is a hummer,I will know more in a few days. BILL

Bill
Do you or anyone have a picture of your rimfire action , that they can post?

Thank You

Hal

Stock Dipping?

Who does the stock dipping, and will it take on the look of a marbled fiberglass stock?

Bill you told me earlier you made the scope base rail, did you make those rings also?

The rifle looks great!

Gary

Gary,Harrells makes the Rings,Liquid Illusions does the stock,I will find the # & email it to you.It looks like Marble,I will post some pictures when it is finshed. BILL
