So I decided to cut this blank at 23 1/2 inches, length, same as the last barrel,( slugging told me it would work equally as well a half inch shorter), and, I set it up and reduced it's diameter at the muzzle to .886", same as the barrel in the above post....

Question.
If you cant thread a barrel to fit a tuner how can you reduce the dia to fit a tuner? And how do you hold the tuner on?
Serious questions from someone who wants to know
I would ask on the other thread but it is going so well I don't want to stir the pot.
Regards
Kim

Kim,
I think some people are missing the point with what Bill is talking about. He’s trying to workout if he can lap barrels of the same length and diameter and use the same tuner setting on all. But I don’t know why he wouldn’t turn the barrel down before he lap it. He keeps telling everyone he’s getting old etc etc, maybe he just plain forgot. Might have been better if he explained why but sometimes he does things like that to see who is paying attention.

With all due respect to the 50M LV world Champ, it is you not Kim who is missing the point. The barrels are taper lapped when Bill receives them from the barrel maker. The barrels are appx. .900 in dia when Bill receives them.He is then profiling them. He has preached for 15 years that this destroys accuracy. What is the difference in what Bill is doing and threading a barrel for a tuner? He has also stated that a barrel cannot be threaded or it will destroy accuracy. Kim, I have ask this question for at least a week so don't hold your breath waiting for an answer. We are expected to accept what Bill says on blind faith because Bill Calfee said it.

James,

I don’t understand why you are getting your knickers in a knot. If you are correct all the barrels Bill gets are .9 and lapped by the barrel maker, that can only mean Bill profiles all his barrels after they are lapped and you have your answer. The question is, are your correct on how all the barrels Bill uses are sent to him?

Bill clearly talks in riddles and he is running some tests and sort of letting us know what he is doing and some of the results. I seem to able to follow it and find it interesting.

At some point in Bill's writings, he did say that .005" is OK, and will not change the bore dimentions. I am not saying it is right or wrong, just remember reading it from him. It may not have been .005, but I do know it was small amount that was OK to do. Threading, or turning the barrel down more will, according to Bill, will open the bore dimentions.
Opening the bore dimentions is not good for accuracy in a rimfire.

No questions about that.

Knickers???

The other question is, what are knickers?

knickers.....

The short of it is the analogy: "... don't get your panties in a wad!" Knickers in the commonwealth countries is used by both male & females, to name the female garment; I guess his intent was to convey to you that your perceived excitement & anxiety in calling Mr. Calfee to task was reminiscent of a distraught female reaction. Just a guess, you understand.
