This is a Joke. Right?
Have they renamed Piney Hill?
What is a Bill Calfee record? Does it involve a Mossberg?

It's a new outdoor range

Bill Hinegardner cooked it up and I made an assumption that it's in Luray.

Calfee Memorial Range

Bill Hinegardner has built a small outdoor range behind his house in Linville, Virginia. Six benches, I think, maybe a couple more. But, cute range and the conditions should be "honey-hole" like because it's sheltered behind the benches, on both sides and in a hollow. We didn't know until today that he had named it the Bill Calfee Record Range in honor of Mr. Calfee -- at Mr. Calfee's request. Mr. Calfee actually wanted Bill H. to name the range the Bill Calfee Memorial Range, but Bill Hinegardner thought that was too much like an after-death tribute. Bill Hinegardner obviously has a great deal of respect for Mr. Calfee and it should be interesting to see if Mr. Calfee has as much respect for Bill Hinegardner by actually showing up at "his" namesake range to shoot and to christen the hallowed ground.

Just when I think nothing more about this shooting game can surprise me -- up pops a situation so socialogically intriguing (and to my warped sense of humor - hilarious), it actually makes me want to start shooting again.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Calfee Range schedule is arranged so that lots of good shooters from the surrounding area can actually participate without missing their own home club matches.

A gallon jug of Dago Red and a little time, presto, and anointing.:)

I would like to hear this from Bill Hinegardner. Bill Calfee actually requested a range be named after him kinda like Donald Trump and Trump towers, Trump this and Trump that? Bill may be proud of his rifles and his accomplishments in rimfire but I always thought he had too much humility to do anything like that. I would have to hear it from Bill Hinegardner to believe that he actually requested a range be named after him. Sounds like the outer limits.

Outer Limits?

Bill Hinegardner told us this on the phone yesterday. Hinegardner would have no reason to lie about it. He was pleased he could do something nice for someone he admires so much.

Now we hear from Texas that Mr. Calfee is telling people he did not ask that the range be named after him, that it was Bill Hinegardner's idea. No matter who's idea it was, apparently it was deemed a good idea by Mr. Calfee because he didn't object to it and Wilbur posted a welcome to the newly-named club on the IR 50/50 home page.

Why in the world would a nice guy like Bill Hinegardner choose to name a project he had put a ton of money, time and thought into (on his own farm property) after an eccentric gunsmith in Borden, Indiana out of the clear blue sky? That would be like me putting up a sign at the entrance to my driveway that says "Willbur Harris's Homeplace". It just wouldn't make any sense and I don't think I'd be inclined to do it unless Wilbur indicated it would make him happy.

Poop-pot

somebody is stirring the pot again, me thinks.

I would still have to hear it from Bill Hinegardner. Sorry, but hearsay doesn't do it.

Beau,

We know that these people would not lie about a thing like this. This couldn't even be made up. There is no reason to make this up. Why don't you talk to Bill Hinegardner personally just to satisfy yourself. You might even ask Bill Calfee about it.

Being paranoid might be a sign of something changing.

Watch out for the flying Monkees Larry. Apparantly Bill did not get permission to call the range whatever he wanted on his own land. I hope he's not planning any secret ammo test sessions there.

First of all, congratulations to Bill Hinegardener for setting up another range to hold sanctioned matches. That's a good thing! No matter what you name it! Well done Bill, glad to see you open another spot for people to compete. With places to shoot going away as years go by you deserve a lot of credit for creating another spot to shoot.
Bill Hinegardener is a friend, and an honest straight forward guy. If he says something I believe him, as I do Inez and Bill Myers. All are good folks.
Congrats on the new range Bill H. Hope are lot of records are shot there!

Well.. Maybe Bill Hinegardner named his range out of loyalty and in honor of someone whom he respected and cared for. And as for getting permission to name the range, I believe that he can name his range, on his own property, for anyone or anything he wants...

Congratulations Bill, nice move..

I think you said it all. But please let me add.....

Bill H. is a great guy and he has done, and is still doing a lot for the sport.

Others have as well, and they all have the right to name any range they build and own anything they want.

Now wouldn't it be great if we could convince Bill Calfee to come down and open this new range!!

I, for one would like to meet the man, and I promise not to bother him with a million questions. But I do have a few.
