I just want to shoot a little. I have a few acres of hillside and valleys but yet am in the city limits and want to adhear to the law about shooting. I have been practicing my 22 lr benchrest but somethins I just want ro shoot a little around the house, have a great place to do it but like I said I am in the city limits.

Would like to use a scope. Please give a little consideration to models available at bass pro as I have one close and it would allow me to see and touch before buying. If you really feel I am going to miss out by not considering others please advise of that also.

If tou are trying to keep the noise down try subsonic 22 lr and 22 cb longs.
not benchrest accuracy but a lot of fun.

It really depends on your budget. I recently bought an older Steyr model 91 CO2 rifle to use as my BR gun. I really like the convenience of co2, load and shoot. No pumping, no stiff break bbl action and with some minor adjustments the gun is nearly silent. I do have to arrange for a CO2 bulk tank. The rifle came with 3 cartridges and each will go 200 + shots before needing recharging.

I do have an old Beeman 250 'magnum' springer. It is so harsh and loud that it is not much fun to shoot.

If you are willing to invest in a scuba tank and refill set up I would suggest the Crosman / Benjamin Discovery PCP at less than $250.You can get it with a hand pump for about $375 but I would buy just the rifle and acquire a used Scuba tank and charging rig. You can also run it on CO2.

The PCP is less affected by ambient temp than CO2.

If you still want to go with a spring powered gun then I would try to find a used FWB 300.

Another question is how much power do you want ?

I agree with not wanting to shoot a firearm in the city. The perception difference between a firearm and a 'bb' gun is huge.
 
Not sure what the real difference between 800 and 1000 fps really is. The whole deal is about legalitys of discharging a firearm in the city limits. Not opposed to co2 at all. personally i would just buy cartridges for no more than they cost.

If closer

I thought if you were close by, you could try out my Steyr 88 CO2 Match rifle. My Grandson used it in BR%) years back, and I have no interest in AG as a lone shooter at our club. I do know, that when I first got the rifle, it chronographed between 595 and 600 fps. Pretty consistant.

At our Air Gun Benchrest Match today a fellow shot a Crosman CO2 2240 pistol and did very well. 25 Yards 25 bulls plus sighters on a through away cyclinder.
