benchrest stock

I am going to order a laminated wood benchrest stock with a 3" forend for a Savage long action, and a longer forend to accommodate a 30" x 1 1/4" straight barrel with out the savage nut, I have a few in mind, one is the Tracker st 1000, any comments or a better choice. there doesn't seem to be much of a choice in wood.

I have two of Don Stith's Dart BR stocks for Remingtons. He told me to send him a Savage stock and he could duplicate the inletting. I am sure adding extra length to the forend would be no problem.

His company is St. Louis Plains Rifle Co. and like most old codgers his website is not up to date. Call him for the latest info.

sharp shooters supply

I have seen four or five of the long range br they are rock solid. He will sell you a dropin or simi inlet. The traker is a nice stock and bill is a great person to deal with has treated me great every time I call.

Sounds like this is just-for-fun benchrest because you're using a Savage action. Is that the case ??? If it is, look here under centerfire stocks on the left: http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/

Fun yes! not because of a Savage action, I like the Savage actions because I can do alot with them to my taste and get excellent accuracy, I have been down the rem road, I trued them, picked up the threads and redone the raceways, sleeved them, I see no difference in accuracy, the trend now is the Savage bolt head getting adapted to the Rem bolt, I feel the floating bolt head is very effective, I actually like the floating bolt head concept. no vibrations get transferred past the bolt lugs, get, the barrel is a 30 Brux,1 1/4" dia straight 8.5 twist no nut, so you can say having fun, but at my choice of actions. or my next step would be a Bat, ect.

PS a stock from SSS is 8 weeks I am looking for something sooner if possible, to give the rifle a try at the Williamsport 1000 yds range.
 
I built a buddy a 7mm STW, (Savage action), and he had me bed it to a Sharp Shooter Supply stock with a 3 in forearm and a adjustable check piece, turned out really nice, he went 7 for 7 over 400 yards on whitetails last season. fred & lisa @ sharp shooter are nice to work with too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I am considering the Sharp Shooter Supply Laminate Varmint/Tactical (LVT) stock. What do you think of this stock with a 30" barrel that will way about 7 pounds? Will it be balanced when put together? :confused:

I am also considering having them chamber, thread and crown my new 6mm 1 in 8" twist 30" finished Brux barrel so I can assemble it to a Savage duel port target action.

Does anyone have experience for their turn around time for them ( SSS ) finishing my barrel?

Sharp Shooter

I was there today, Fred is very busy. Im guessing it will be a bit to get work done....But well worth the wait. Heres one of Fred's Stocks.
