I'm interested in purchasing a stool to se for benchrest shooting (600 and 1000 yd competition). Can anyone give me some advice as to what type and brand seems to work for you? Please include the name of where I can purchase that type of stool.

You can order one from Midway USA or if you have a good Tool or Equipment House in you town look there. I got mine at JC's welding shop. He made me 10 for my range out of spare parts and drops. Get one that is sturdy, and that adjusts. I don't like for mine to roll but that is me.

Any music store will have an enormous selection of drummer's "thrones".

We use two of the DW 9000 series drummers thrones. One of them has thwe 14 inch round seat and the other one has what they call the tractor seat.
I prefer the round seat and when the tractor style seat needs replacing I'll go back to the round seat.
Funny thing about drummers thrones is you can buy them localy for the same or less money than you can get them for on the internet.
Hit a local music store and your all set.
If you only shoot on concrete anything will work but if your range has dirt or rock only get something 3 legged.

i got one from grizzley ind supply for 50.00 works good an was cheap.you can get carryed away with some of the stools and pay over 100.00 for one.

I have a very good Drummers throne it just sits on a shelf in my garage since I got one of the $100 hydraulic jobs, they are overpriced and impossible to carry and if you use one for a couple of matches you will never go back.

I have a Pacific drummers throne that Ive used for years. I bought it new for $50.00 at a music store. The best part about it is that its easily modified to sit lower than any others(that Ive found) by simply drilling out the bottom rivet & cutting an inch off the bottom of the stem & rivet it back together. This lets the legs spread out wide so it sits low for use on short benches and it still folds up like its supposed too.
Most important thing, get one thats comfortable to sit on for a long time. You don't realize how much time a benchrest shooter spends on his ass until you buy a throne with a hard seat.

Roc & soc

I purchased a "Roc & Soc" brand throne from the local music store and am very happy with it. I'm 6'3" and tip the scales at 315lbs and this throne can handle that with no problem. The thing is rock solid and the seat is very thickly padded with a fabric on the top that prevents you from sliding around on it. I'm not a fan of the hydraulic type. I just see that as being less stabile and a potential part to fail on me. They are a bit pricey and can be a little to bulky for some shooters to lug around. I suggest that you go to a music store and test drive several different ones. Buy comfort and quality before you buy price. If you are lucky you may be able to pick up one at the local pawn shop too. Good luck.

This is really no contest,

Drummers thrones suck.

Go to Sinclair International and buy a shooting stool. There's really no comparison between the hydraulic Sinclair and a screw mounted "throne..." and the first time you don't crimp your hand in the Sinclair like you would clunky metal throne will pay for it.

I've got 6 types of stool and the only one I've got multiples of is the ridiculously expensive Sinclair.

Point being, they're NOT expensive, when they're the right tool for the job.
