Boyd, here's photos of some benches we made for our club over 25 years ago. These were never designed to be in the same category as the HD concrete benches. Rather they needed to be light enough to move out of the way for prone matches and other shooting disciplines. Yet they are extremely rigid and stable. The smaller legs make it easier for wheelchair accessibility. Stools are fully adjustable to accommodate small youngsters or adults, simply spin the threaded seat to raise or lower. Seat bases are old disc blades.
At the time we were able to construct these for less than $100 each. Materials were one sheet of 3/4" pressure treated plywood and 2" black pipe. Plywood was cut in half (48" X 48") then glued together with liquid nails. This gave us a 1.5" thick top that is bolted to the steel sub frame. The cut outs were saved and used for seats on the adjustable stools.
Legs and framework were run through a tube bender then welded in a "V" shape. 10 gauge plates capped the legs to prevent insects, dirt, and moisture from getting inside the tubing. Tubing can also be bent at any local muffler shop that has a bender. Bending the tubing instead cutting separate pieces it makes the unit much stronger.
