I need to get a sander for another project + I know I will be using one for gun work. Will the $120 Sears one work fine? If not what would u guys buy?
Thanks

I bought a cheap one form HD. It does grind and sand stuff, that is about all you can say for it. The table on the disk sander is worthless. If I had to do it again, I would buy a larger one. The 8" or even larger disk would be nice at times.

The best bang for the buck I've found is the Grizzly 12". I have yet to burn mine out through countless recoil pad jobs. It has paid for it's self over and over again. I got mine used at a second hand machinery yard and have no idea how many years old it is?

I really like my Rigid (Home Depot, $150) table top oscillating 4"x24" belt/spindle sander for most sanding chores.

For those occasions I really need a disc sander, I have a 10" sanding disc (Sear's, $15) made for use with table and radial arm saws, it simply replaces the blade. It's long been my favorite method of tightly fitting new recoil pads on finished stocks. Guess Sears still sells them. ??

That 12" disc sander is a good bet. Also, I use 1 one inch belt sander from HF. It was about $30 on sale. I took the table and platten off and use it to deburr and follow curves. It is my "go to" sander. I also leave the side cover off. Belts are cheap and easy to change.

I have an old Delta/Rockwell 12" disk, 6x48" belt sander. It's a heavy cast iron monster (probably weighs 350 lbs) but it sure can sand things fast.

It's safer to think of it as a material remover, a wood shaping machine, than a sander. The belt can remove wood really fast. Once you get used to it, it's a "tool". It has a 2hp TEFC motor buried in there that ought to outlast me and my grandkids.

If you can find a used one, it's a good piece of equipment.
