Beginners matches in Central VA?

Hi. I just recently found the joys of Benchrest shooting and would love to find some entry level matches somewhere near Central Virginia. Competing would be fun but I'm more interested in the opportunity to meet some others who have caught the bug and learn anything I can.

Maybe Don Stith will see this and post. He lives in the region around Roanoake, Sandston, VA I think. Don't know where you are, but there several good rimfire ranges in VA and a bunch of great folks as well. Very good shooters too! They will be able to help you a lot.

I am a little slow updating my profile. Live in Troutville near Roanoke now. Sandston is near Richmond. Only moved 5 years ago. Anyhow. Our matches are at Ridge Rifle just north of Fincastle. We have a mix of old timers, beginners and some rapidly rising second and third year shooters. Some of these second year shooters were making names for themselves on the circuit last year. Anyhow we welcome all comers and there is always spare equipment to share with newcomers. Drop me a note for directions and schedules.

Checking that link I can see that my range is mentioned. I'll do some poking around when I'm out there. When I get my confidence I'll head down to Roanoke!

No need for prebuilt confidence. We just enjoy the shooting but do get serious too. Usually have a sandwich and cold drinks to keep the energy level up. There are still matches near Richmond and also Harrisonburg.

Sorry Don, At least I got the state right! Troutville, I like the sound of that since I use to spend a lot of time fly fishing before I became immersed in the RF games.
Max, you will enjoy the company of thsoe fellows. As I said earlier, a fine bunch, and a fine bunch of shooters too.
