What is the technical term for the bedding job that 'epoxys' (?) the action in semi permanently instead of the easily removable method? I have been searching youtube videos for the process and can only find the conventional pillar method. Is there an advantage to the bedding job that is more permanent?
 
Would a glued in action result in a lighter rifle, all else being equal? From what I've seen there's no difference in accuracy either way....given a good job.
 
The main difference in a bedded vs a glued action is if the action is so constructed the action holding screws can be omitted on the gluein thus eliminating having these screws over tightened and stressing the action body.

Yes, it results in a lighter rifle because the pillars and the front guard screw are eliminated.
 
Glued & screwed

Some of us glue the action in & use screws. If you've ever had a glue-in come loose, you'll be glad to have both.

On a similar note, I recently broke out a Stiller action so I could alter the 6ppc drop port to 30BR. (The rifle had been barreled & put together by a name gunsmith.)

Surprisingly, only about 30% of the action was being held in by the glue-in, but the rifle shot very well anyway despite the partial glue-in. It doesn't shoot any different now with a complete glue-in!

Glue in

I owned a 40X that was glued in in 1983,, by James Coffee, and held 10 shot, 300 yd., unlimited record for over 20 years. I tried to get the action lose once w/hot iron,, and never could..I don't know what he used but it's still holding , and rifle still shoots (depending on barrel) Mr. Coffee also shot another 5 shot record @ 300 and was later broken by Jeff Summers. Larry Costa Broke the 10 shot unlimited record some years back .. Coffee's record .536" and I think Larry's is .512". (back to the glue in) 33 years and still holding
