Be careful, guys.

"It'll never work!"
This week in my 'real' job, one of our patients was a man who is a lathe operator in a machine shop. The work piece somehow got loose from the chuck and the tailstock, causing a severe head injury.

Just a reminder. -Al

Good advise. Machine tools can cause serious injuries and in a heartbeat.

Since the manual machines are open, have plenty of power and sharp tooling, fingers and even arms can get snipped off.

One more thing, the operator-never wear loose fitting clothing or long sleeved shirts.

Never wear rings or a wrist watch and always, always, wear good safety glasses.

A kid I went through classes with durring my aprenticeship was running a lathe one day. He had a shaft with too much sticking out of the chuck. He tried to face off the end of the shaft, way too many RPM's. Shaft bent, whacked the toolpost and then pulled out of the chuck striking him square in the chest. He bled out before the EMT's arrived.

They ain't a toy!!!!!!
