Hi, I am currently researching on the effects on accuracy of having a cavity on the face of the base of the projectile.
What are your thoughts and mostly, what is your experience with this concept?

Thank you for your time.

I don't have any experience at all with bullets that have a cavity in the base. I do have extensive experience with bullets that do not have a cavity and can see no reason to change. This experience that I have is exclusively target shooting so if there's another reason to have a cavity then....have a cavity. I don't think that said cavity will make the bullet more accurate.

The cavity on the FMJ Lapuas is so that when the bullet is squeezed in the bore, the lead has a place to go without coming into the base profle. A HPBT has room inside the jacket for the lead to move without coming out of the point. The old M118 173gr FMJ match bullets showed this problem in tight bores.

Like was said on the other thread its been done, and is currently being done. Dont think its helping and could be hurting.
