Barrel Weight Calculator

I have created a Barrel Weight Calculator program for Windows that will calculate the weight of several different barrel profiles. The program window looks like this but a is bit larger:

The program has these options and features:

Barrel Steel - 416 Stainless or 4142 Chrome Moly. Most commonly used steels.

Three Barrel profiles:
Contour- Similar to sporter profiles. Has a transition zone which may be curved or straight. The section in front of the transition zone may be tapered or straight. May or may not include the shank or straight section in front of the receiver.

Taper - A barrel with a straight taper from one end to another. Does not have a transition zone. May be used for reverse taper barrels. May or may not include the shank or straight section in front of the receiver

Cylinder - A straight tube. May or may not include the shank.

Flutes can be added to either the Contour or Cylinder barrel profiles.

The barrel data may be saved, retrieved or deleted.

A printout can be produced which includes a picture of the barrel with your dimensions and the calculated data.

A help file is included.

You may download the setup program here: BWCSetup.exe

The Barrel Weight Calculator program is released as Freeware which means there is no charge and you may copy it and pass it on to friends. You may place a link to the program on your web site but you may not place the program on any website. You may not produce the program for any personal gain and you may not represent it as your own work.
This program will work with any windows operating system up to Windows 7.

It looks pretty handy. I can't save even though the weight is there, it says no weight calculated to save. I cannot print for the same reason.

Some one reported a minor problem. In fixing that I caused the problem you see. I have already fixed it but I can't seem to upload the new version to my web space. As soon as I do, I will come back here and let everyone know.

Edit: Version 1.6 has fixed the problem and added more error checking. Please download and install again using the link in the first post. Sorry

Version 2 of the barrel Weight Calculator has been released. The first major change is that when a barrel weight is calculated, a scale drawing of your barrel will be drawn. The second change applies to a contoured barrel only. In the original version, you could specify the radius of the transition zone. It turns out that the radius that will connect the smaller diameter to the larger diameter is fixed depending on the major diameter, the minor diameter and the length between the two. This drawing shows the problem if the radius selected is too large or too small.

The program now calculates the correct radius that will connect the two points. Of course in the real world, the curve of the transition zone may not be an exact radius. However for the purpose of calculating the weight, there is little difference between using a radius or a straight taper to go from the larger diameter to the smaller one.

You can use the link in the first post to download the latest version.
