Barrel Vibes

A 6br that I have been shooting, passes from verticle to
Horizontal and back to Verticle in one grain. What effect
would a lighter or heavier bullet have, or might a tuner
take any of that out. This is a very lite barrel,.670 muzzle
and contoured like a Varmint Special

Bob, such a barrel is a good candidate for reindexing a quarter turn on the receiver. At one time that's the way I corrected what you describe but in recent months, I have found I can correct it with my tuner.

What you describe is a classic example of the natural curve in a barrel unkowingly being indexed in the horizontal plane. The resulting vibration frequency excited in the horizontal plane is unlikely to be the same as that of the vertical. If this built-in curve is hidden in the natural gravity droop of the barrel, it will go unnoticed. I have such a barrel on my HV rifle. I have found that if I tune this rifle in the second window rather than the first, the horizontal comes out at the same time the vertical disappears.

Hope this helps.
