Is it necessary to have my barrel threaded and a barrel tuner screwed on, or are some barrel tuners bolt on types? And what seems to be the best?

Harrell's type and von Ahrens type tuners are slip/clamp on, no threads needed. You must know the diameter of the barrel at muzzle and inch back for the tuner to be bored to fit. Call Dan Killough and order one, he'll walk you through the procedures.
