Barrel Stamp Removal

Just rechambered a barrel to a different cartridge for a customer and need to remove the old barrel stamp before stamping in the new one.
Just striking a line or X thru each letter looks too much like old Russian refurbing for a Benchrest gun.
Should I just mill a nice flat on it with the mill and restamp?
 
Yes, it looks MUCH more professional than xing it out. The customer will appreciate it, which of course leads to more bussines. It's little things like that, that will run off good customers no matter how good the rest of your work is.
 
You were right! Customer was very pleased with the light mill cuts. :)
