Barrel ringing

Hello, I am basically new to building my own rifles and worked mostly with center fire Remington 700's. My question is I am going to do a .22 rimfire and I have read and heard about ringing a barrel. Can anyone explain to me what this is and how it is done, Thanks for your time, runningbear.
