There is no heat generated to speak of and if the barrel is smooth inside ie free of burrs and the crown is burr free I see no use for conditioning and never found it to make a difference with a good barrel. A clean bbl to start with maybe a patch pulled through with your favorite lube, a couple of settling shots to verfy the gun's point of impact and consistancy and you and the barrel are about as ready as you can be.
You will learn that some guns reach a limit on shots and the accuracy starts to go south. Trying to understand and resolve the condition Ed Shilen and I both looked at one of my barrels that had gone south on a big TV screen and could not find anything to indicate a problem was present. But a simple cleaning and it came right back to shooting very good. The deteriation in accuracy will be small and progressive so pay attention. Now barrels that are made bad with tool marks in rifling/groove or chambers are not going to shoot well and lead is going to fill these voids and not shoot well no matter what lube and break in method used. You may experience a period where after some amount of shots the gun seems to shoot better but it will never last. Shooters without borescopes feel that wire brushes will take lead out and it does not it only spreads it around. What I do know is too much of any lube changes impact and group size so the lube must be consistant.
Many of our serious shooters have tested many lubes for accuracy and each seems to have found one they are comfortable with. Some shoot with no lube at all using only the mold release agent on the pellet. One of the things we have learned this past couple of years of competition are that many lubes work. I am sure many will offer their favorites here on your question but I would be talking to the winners not those that think they are. They are not shooting that well because something does not work for them.

For what it is worth..

On My Walther Dominator 300 I get about 4 cards. The fourth card it will start heading south. I clean it with a pull through and Gunzilla. Half a dozen shots and its back to business. I have used Krytec or kroil on the pellets, with kriol being a tad more consistant.
