Barrel cleaning voodoo

Sigh....
I decided to brush clean my Annie yesterday.I have her about a year now so it would be time I thought. After cleaning she shot a tad worse to my disappointment.Usually I shoot indoor 249 250 with a high X.Now I shot 3 times 249 with a lower X,about 5 less than average.(after doing some shooting in)Would this be normal?Does the barrel need some residue to function as before,I'm puzzeled.Or is this coincidence and is it playing up in my mind now.Ammo and setup are the same.Maybe I should shoot some groups to find out,but the sighters were fine.

I followed all the "rules" for brushcleaning.I bought an Anschütz bore guide and very carefully passed the rod with a brand new bronze brush.First I passed some wet vfg wads and a few dry to remove most crud as usual. Then a few wet followed by 10 passes with the brush, from breech to muzzle unscrewing and reinserting each time.Than a few dry ones and some wet.I did this 3 times and after that I dry patched with wads. The last ones were clean so I stopped. Then I passed some wads with fp10 and somedry ones.

Normally I clean after max.50 shots, usually after each card, with vfg felt wads (on a self made sort of patch worm you see advertised here)with shooters choice lead remover followed with some dry ones, then fp10 and dry ones. This worked fine as I removed very little from the barrel with brush cleaning with boretech rimfire blend.I've used that before with good results so this shouldn't cause a problem.

The tuner tube was also cleaned, but that is done on a regular base too.

So you guys what do you think?Did I screw up somewhere or not.Does this need some time now to "set" the barrel or is it just me?I might stick to patches only though as brush cleaning removed little more than vfg wad cleaning for a year.

Help is much appreciated.

Sometimes it takes up to 50 rounds for a well cleaned bore to come back. It could be the conditions. Don't worry it will shoot as before. Next time don't clean so much.

I think you're over cleaning. I rarely use wire brushes in the bore of my Anschutz. I usually clean the throat with a lead-free patch to get rid of the donut and then maybe run a patch with CLP down the bore followed by a couple dry. I don't like to lose the "seasoning" in the barrel. I only clean every 500 rounds or so.

I'm confused! You clean to get the "seasoning" out of your gun then you shoot it to get the "seasoning" back in, then you clean to.....Why don't you just shoot the gun?

You were right Fred.Today I shot some cards and all is business as usual. It's the first and last time I will put a brush through my bore.I will only use patches in the future. Thanks guys.
