Is there any truth to the adage that pure copper barnes bullets will swedge out a barrel and also if they are shot from a barrel, it is likely that lead-core bullets will NOT shoot well thereafter?
I've been shooting Barnes Bullets for years, and occaisionally switch to Nosler Partitions for hunting without any problems what so ever, they shoot the same. I don't shoot benchrest, but from a hunting standpoint I see no problem at all, and I think Barnes Bullets are the best hunting bullet money can buy period.
I think the situation is very exagerated.
However a solid copper projectile no mater how soft it is will place some extra stress on the rifling compared to a thin jacketed soft cored bullet and as a result there can be a slight increas in wear but it is very slight and is usually way less than the normal variations in wear that come from , different cleaning , different barrel specs, different steels, different shooting habits and other variables . So it is fairly meaningless.
However there are some very tight barrels on the market and I have seen .243 barrels that were .237 inside so this barrel would suffer a bit more .
I dont think it is an issue worth loosing any sleep over.
