You might try this on the..........................

I don't have any experience w/the Barnard action, but, from the experience I DO have, I haven't seen an action in any kind of block that didn't positively respond to bedding in the block. I would guess that if the block was made by the same machinist, right after he made the action, and used that action to make the measurements for the block, well, then the block would probably work best, for that action alone.
