Balvar 24 scope adjustments....

I have a couple of them and one came with a Sako 461 Varmint. The barrel must be D&T and both bases mounted on the barrel.
The original mounts are not bad if used correctly. A few users said they ran out of adjustment but I'm of the opinion they were not properly used.
When mounted, remove the two hex caps, one each on elevation, one on windage. They cover two screws. Turn both W & E dials to "0". Now sight your gun in using the screws, not the dials. When sighted in recap the screws and now use your dials for fine adjustment or range change.
Depending on your use you may find the crosshair thick at higher powers.
As a note when these scopes came out they sold for $239, about double that of Unertl or Lyman.

Howdy,
I pasted part of a post by BrianJ from the gunsmithing forum. I need to ask if anyone has any information as to how much adjustment is accomplished by how much movement of the windage and elevation screws located under the hex caps on a Balvar 24 target scope.

In other words, how much movement (in minutes of angle) is accomplished by a full turn of the screws?

I found a copy of the instruction manual online, and printed it off. But it did not have the info I asked for above. I have seen where several folks who post here have them, and was hoping someone would know from practical experience.

Thanks!
Greg

Greg,

Can't help with individual turns but the B&L book put out in 1956 states 40" at 100yds for the sighting in screws.

Ring Adj. Windage +/- 20" at 100 yds. (fine adj.)
Ring Adj. Elevation +30" /-10" at 100 yds. (fine adj.)
