As I looked over new posts on a couple of shooting sites, and drank my morning coffee, I happened to pick up the May 2011 issue of Precision Shooting, and as I flipped through the pages,I came across James Boatright's article, "A Coning Theory of Bullet Motions". Looking at the diagrams and their captions, I became aware that there might actually be something there beyond a repetition of what I had previously read about this subject. This prompted me to return to the beginning of the article for a more complete reading. What I got from this was that the author was doing something that was a lot more original than summarizing the work of previous authors, and as I continued to read, I came across something that made me smile, because it reminded me of lively discussions that have taken place on this site about how a bullet's motion and orientation are changed as it is acted upon by the wind. His seems to me to be an alternate imagining of what takes place, complete with explanations, diagrams, and references to previous work on the subject. I am interested to know if any of you have read the article, and what your opinions of it are.
