Ball C Lot 1 and Ball C lot 2

I would guess that those of you that use Ball C (Lot 1) have also tried Lot 2 which is currently for sale. My question is how much difference is there in the burn rate? Is Lot 1 faster or slower than Lot 2? Could you advise what amount you use of 1 compared to 2? I am thinking of trying it in a .219 DWasp Bench gun and also in the .204 Ruger.

Thanks,

Lot 1 verses Lot 2

I have a rather large amount of Lot 1 and wish to use it in the two (or more) calibers I wrote of. What I am trying to find out if (for instance only) the load for Lot 2 is say a max in the book of 29 grains. Now, if I were to use 29 grains of Lot 1 would likely that be over the max? I really don't know any better way to explain. I guess I am trying to find out what the difference in Lot 1 and Lot 2 is. Butch you said Lot 2 is slower so that helps me some.

Thanks,
D

Ball C which is the proper designtion for what you call Ball C 1. The powder was popular with the BR crowd back in the 1960's-1980's mostly. I sold what I had to Dennis Wagner about 10 years ago mainly because I was using N133 and H 322. Ball C is a fine spherical powder meters well but nothing special. If you have a Belding & Mull thrower as I do Ball C and a B&M are like peas and carrots. Cut back 5-10% with Ball C on your published Ball C 2 data until you figure out what you got.

Ball C

Thank you Mr. Perry,
I am aware of the background of Ball C. I call it lot 1 so that there will be no misunderstanding that I am not talking about Lot 2. As many of the newer shooters have never even heard of "Lot 1" I can understand that they would get the two mixed up.

Of course I always start low and work my way up but Butch more or less answered my question that it is a "faster" powder than lot 2.

Dew,

FYI, Speer#4 (Wildcats, '59) lists 27.5 gr. BL-C for a 55gr. bullet @3255 fps in the Don.Wasp.
;) Glad to see someone else is still shooting it too!

Hope this helps.

I think I have that book

I know I have an old Speer Wildcat book around in the "stuff"... thanks I'll go look for it.

Found it!

Same book you have.
Thanks for the pointer. I guess I should look more in the old books before asking questions.

I have used BLC 2 in my Winchester high wall 219 Donaldson Wasp. I don't usually print loads on the inernet but get ahold of me after this weekend and we'll talk.
I have also used it in my deuce mag. Both cartridges perform better with mag primers, although the Rem 71/2 works well in the 222 mag.

When I started BR in 1977 Ball C2 had replaced Ball C mainly because Ball C2 was readily available. I remember using loads of Ball C2 for my .222 barrel and my 6x47 barrel. Actually back then 4198, 4895, and RE 7 shot the best for me. Remington 22 BR bullet and Metzger 6 BR bullets.
