B&L Elite Repair back from Bushnell

I had heard a couple of different things regarding Bushnell repairs of Bausch and Lomb Elite scopes. Well, I went ahead and sent in a 6-24 Elite 4000 that had a cross-hair broke. Got it back in nine days (incl weekend), repaired free, shipped back free and it included a 10 or 20 percent discount card for a Bushnell product.

I am pleasantly surprised to say the least. I bought this scope in the late 90's I believe, had no receipt and didn't have to say whether I was the original owner or not. I did not call prior to sending it in but you do have to download their repair form from their website before sending it in. Very simple.

That's a very good thing...I had just the opposite experience...
I purchased a used 36x B&L scope from a seller on BR Central...it had a bent vertical wire on the reticle....I sent it to Bushnell for repair...and after 3 weeks I recieved an email stating that parts were no longer available...and without any further communication they sent me a new 8-32x B&L Elite scope...and kept my 36x...they didn't even ask if I wanted mine back, or if I wanted a replacement of equal value..
I was so disgusted that I sold the new 8-32 and decided that I would never buy a 36x B&L because there is no warranty repair available for them since Bushnell does not make a 36x ...so if anyone has one that needs repair they had better use Bill Ackerman or some other non warranty scope repair or they will never see their scope again...

To eww1350........you had purchased a DEFECTIVE scope and then gambled that Bushnell would repair it to YOUR satisfaction. Well, you were ahead of the game through their generosity and you're complaining ! I returned my old B&L Balvar 8 of 55 years!! for reticle repair .....they had no replacement parts...they apologised and sent me a NEW scope with greater specifications!! Would I buy another BUSHNELL....damned right I would!! They make a good product for the money and deserve a note of thanks from you.

I think you missed the point I shoot BENCHREST and I bought a 36x B&L for it's 1/8" clicks for score shooting...a 8-32x is not in my opinion considered a BR scope...I would have taken my 36x back and sent it to Ackerman if given the option...it would be like one sending their rifle scope in for repairs and being sent a pistol scope back in return...NOT usable for the application...so I stand on my opinion of their service...you can stand on yours...I am just sharing my experience with Bushnell....

I have 3 B&L branded scopes and would buy more. Haven't had the opportunity to find out about their repair policy though this thread is good to hear.

eww1350,

Don't discount that scope. A couple of years ago, my wife at her very first BR match at St. Louis, won a small group trophy and came in second for small group at another yardage. Shooting in 27 degree weather with a 22-.100 short and a Bushnell 8-32 Elite on top.

I shot many sub .200 groups with that scope.

Its not a B-L but I just bought a 6-24 4000 to put on a 22-250. Paid about half for what a Leupold would cost. Dont get me wrong. I still think Leupold is the best but I dont need that kind of clarity on a hunting scope. Gonna give Bushnell a try.

life is not fair and it is also true of bushnell's service department.
i sent in a new in the box scope that woulld not move..a 3-9 with a stuck adjusting bell.
with no word to me...they returned the scope as "damaged"
now i paid shipping to them paid the return shipping and not one person in thier customer service/repair /warrantee department gave me a call.......
so i called and whined at them. the scope was new in the box, never mounted and undamaged but they claimed damaged..........
in the end they replaced the scope for a 50% fee...so much for thier 5year service plan.
bottom line the people in the service department appear to be on a quota system..move so many incomming everyday and communication with the customer in nonexistant.
do they make good scopes, but thier communication skills suck as does thier decision making.

Sent a mid eighties 6x24 Balvar in for repair when the inside fogged up. Received a letter back stating that they had no parts, but would send me a new 6x24 for $325 difference. After quoting their warranty back to them, they dropped the price to $125. I asked them to just remove the fogging and put the scope back together with the old "O" rings which they did. I guess it all depends who is the service manager at the time.

Needless to say, I'm just a Leupold or Weaver guy now.

mike in co..........the question ...did you contact the dealer who sold you a defective NEW scope? The dealer bears some responsibility, does he not?

Respectfully,Ted
