At what seating depth do you 'normally' shoot 8-ogive bullets?

With the ppc, where do you normally find the sweet spot for the seating depth when you use 8-ogive bullets? FB and BT are both of interest.

Reason for asking is that I am about to give up no a set of bullets, all 8-ogive, since I have such a hard time tuning them. Some day OK, but to find a wide sweet spot - not a chance in hell. The barrel itself performs greatly with double ogive bullets, which are the ones I bring to matches. Might be the barrel, indeed, but still.

When searching, where would one normally start?

What ogive are the double O's your shooting? Arent most Double O's a 8 or 9 ogive then a 6? I dont shoot any so i am only assuming. Lee

What distance do you shoot?
What twist barrel?
What leade or freebore?
What is wrong with shooting double ogive?

First, nothing is wrong shooting double ogive. I do that in matches since they perform better in my current barrels. BArrel is 13.5 twist, I shoot 100/200 group, and the freebore is .045''.

My interest was of principal character and the reason that I have a bunch of they lying around. Double ogive I normally start at full jam and work the bullet back into the brass given that they are FB. BT sometimes I start the other way around starting at the touching point. Sometimes I get the 8-ogive to work well with close to full jam, but the loading window is then too narrow to keep stable based on my current experience.

Why don't you try a jump? (1) Often the "window" is wider, and (2) see Gene Beggs explanation on the causes of horizontal stringing -- the post is around here somewhere, in a thread on horizontal stringing. For short range, I'd try anything up to .010 off -- maybe even .020 off, just for three shots, what's it cost?

The narrow load window may just be your barrel. In my experience not all barrels offer a wide load range or seat depth. Lee
